The ZZ plant, also known as Zamioculcas zamiifolia, belongs to the Araceae family and is a tropical plant native to eastern Africa, stretching from southern Kenya to northeastern South Africa. With its stems gracefully growing upwards, resembling a magic wand expanding from a bulbous base that tapers as it grows, the ZZ plant boasts shiny, oval-shaped leaves all over.

Ideal for those new to plant parenthood, the ZZ plant can thrive without water for weeks and adapt to various light conditions. It can thrive in low to bright, indirect light and only requires watering once every 2-3 weeks, preferring to dry out completely in between waterings. However, it is toxic to pets, so caution is advised for pet owners.

Recommended for intermediate plant parents, the ZZ plant does not like to sit in water to avoid root rot. If its leaves turn yellow, it may be a sign of overwatering.
